K2 USA are running a virtual roundtable series, titled Virtual Assignment Strategies. For an introduction to the series, please read our previous articles, Session 1, Session 2 and Session 3.

Session 4 built on the conversation and learnings from session 3 and continued to apply these virtual assignment learnings into practice. The group focused on discussing the specific evaluation criteria for virtual assignments, exploring the different factors that need to be considered.

For example, the session began with a focus on cost impacts, what costs will be non-existent when conducting a virtual assignment, and alternatively what costs may increase, and debated whether the perceived cost-benefit of conducting virtual assignments, really exists. The session also talked through certain risk elements to consider, such as concerns surrounding tax and immigration, as well as other considerations such as logistical challenges, and potential business needs.

The session ended with the group discussing how best to communicate these evaluations. The group was joined by communications and strategy expert, Louis Kokenis, who introduced some fundamentals around communication strategies. Louis explained how different communication techniques, when communicating about virtual assignments, can be incredibly useful, and effective.

The session was led and facilitated by Brad Shepard, who was joined by Patricia Tavares, Global Mobility Lead Americas (Unilever) and other mobility leaders to enable a in depth discussion across various market sectors. In this session the group was also joined by communications and strategy expert, Louis Kokenis and tax experts from EY, Danielle Mazzoni and Phillipe Caetano.
