On Tuesday 5th July, K2’s UK based senior leadership team members, headed to Leicestershire for an off-site day dedicated to the development of the company’s people strategy, supported by The Matt Hampson Foundation.
At The Get Busy Living Centre, just outside of Melton Mowbray, The Foundation’s learning and development team expertly facilitated a full-day workshop, designed to help K2’s senior leaders to define what knowledge, skills and behaviours our people will need now and over the next five years.
The Foundation’s learning and development team all have unique stories and insight from their extraordinary experiences as elite sportspeople, former military leaders, polar explorers, and leadership and team experts, making them well placed to support organisations like K2 to create strategies that centre around resilient, determined leadership.
Partnering with The Matt Hampson Foundation
Choosing to get busy living, Matt Hampson established the Foundation in 2011 to help others like him, who have suffered catastrophic injuries through sport, to receive the support they need to rebuild their lives.
This is the philosophy behind everything the Matt Hampson Foundation does; they help people get busy living again after a life-changing injury – whether it’s helping them get back into sport or supporting them in adapting to their new life.
K2 has been a supporter of The Matt Hampson Foundation since its beginning, attending a variety of fundraising events over the years, but it was only this year that the opportunity to work more closely together presented itself, and K2 engaged The Foundation’s team to deliver a tailored corporate training and development programme, recognising the enormous value it could provide to the K2 team.
Prioritising people and culture
People and culture is one of the key strategic focuses of K2’s five-year Kinetic business plan, so carving out time to design and agree immediate and long term people and culture strategies is crucial to ensure the company delivers on its commitment to employees, to make K2 the best possible place to work that it can be.
Richard Rutledge, Executive Business Director comments:
“The value of continued education is often underestimated. We want to make sure that our people are equipped with the skills and knowledge required to perform to the best of their abilities and we see the provision of a varied training and development programme as being key to this.
The Foundation’s learning and development team delivered an engaging and thought provoking session to the senior leadership team which has really helped us to hone our people strategy, we finished the day with a clear understanding of how to develop existing and future leaders.
The work that’s done at The Get Busy Living Centre is mind blowing, and to have the chance to see it in action was hugely inspiring. The positivity and resilience shown by those affected by life changing injuries and the Foundation team providing the amazing support alike is something I will never forget, its truly amazing.”
The session was facilitated by Geordan Murphy, Dan Hipkiss and Claire Drury. Both Geordan and Dan have a background in professional rugby and so they know the importance of teamwork and playing to people’s strengths.
Reflecting on the session, Dan adds:
“When working on a people development programme with any business, the level of buy-in from senior leaders plays such a crucial role in its success, and Nick and the K2 senior leadership team have shown genuine commitment to supporting and developing all K2 employees.
During our time together we worked to challenge the K2 team to go beyond the obvious, and gain a deeper understanding of the skills and support their people need now and in the future, and the role the SLT will play in championing and nurturing employees.
As long standing supporters of The Matt Hampson Foundation, it was great for our development team to be able to work with K2 and build on the many existing strengths of the K2 culture.”
We look forward to working closely with The Matt Hampson Foundation over the coming months, as their learning and development team will be facilitating further sessions for K2 team members.
