As we move closer towards the end of the year, we are all thinking about Brexit and how changes to legislation will affect our businesses. From rom 1st of January 2021, free movement will end and the UK will introduce a points-based immigration system. ALL Employers will need a sponsor licence if they want to recruit EU and non-EU citizens under most of the work routes.

To help everyone learn more about Brexit Immigration, and what individuals and businesses need to be thinking about, and preparing, K2 held two Brexit Immigration webinars, to dive deeper into these topics.

The session was facilitated by Huw Thomas, UK Business Development Manager, who was joined by our dedicated immigration team, Sandra Toppin, UK Immigration Manager, Simon Higson, UK Immigration Manager, and Susanna Wang, Regional Immigration Manager, based in Sweden.

Our session experts covered a range of key topics surrounding Brexit Immigration, including The New Immigration System, Sponsorship Licence, UK Nationals in the EU and much more. The session aimed to give an informative and interesting update on the current landscape, what should be being prepared now, and key considerations to take on board.  Both sessions ended with a live Q&A where attendees were given the opportunity to ask questions to the expert panel.

First we heard from Sandra Toppin, who began the session by outlining the current countdown to Brexit (January 1st 2021) and highlighting what we should all be doing to prepare. Sandra spoke through the key dates timeline, indicating the crucial dates to be aware of for both employers and individuals. Sandra also explained what the UK Settlement Scheme is, why it is important, who should be applying and what to expect.

Sandra then talked us through the New Immigration System, and obtaining a Sponsorship Licence as an employer, and how K2 can assist you with this process, as we have done for other clients, and ourselves.

Please see our case study article here.

As an overview, the session then went through an overview of key considerations for the New Immigration System, including key dates, who will need to apply for applications, and what to look out for.

The session then heard from Susanna Wang, who gave an overview on what UK nationals who want to work in the EU need to be preparing for, as after January 1st 2021, UK nationals will not be considered EU citizens. Susanna explained process changes, and what we do know, as well as highlighting the information that we (globally) are yet to receive.

Simon Higson then talked through the New Points Based System, including who would meet the criteria for sponsorship and what would need to be demonstrated in order to receive this. Simon explained the intricacies of different routes that an individual may be able to consider, and what these different routes meant in terms of benefits vs disadvantages.

The session then came to a close with an overview of the key points and key dates that individuals and companies need to be aware of, followed by an in-depth Q&A.

The session was intended to give a relevant and interesting update on all things Brexit Immigration, and what we all need to be preparing now. If you would like to watch the session you can do so via the link below.
