Some run, some walk, some crawl……..but everyone finishes!

Alongside our friends at Aon, K2 is once again taking on Race to the King, an ultramarathon and endurance test, which this year will take participants on an extended, figure of eight loop from Goodwood Racecourse.

We have lined up a team of K2 employees, clients and service partners, who will be coming together to take on the 100km challenge over 2 days on the 11th & 12th June 2022.

An ultra-accessible, ultramarathon from Threshold Sports

Organisers Threshold Sports have a track record of arranging award winning, iconic challenges, and Race to the King is no exception. An ultra-accessible, ultramarathon, this year’s event follows a route through the beautiful South Downs and stunning Chichester Harbour, along the Sussex coast.

Over 1500 participants will tackle the newly designed figure of eight course that starts and finishes at the historic Goodwood Racecourse.

Raising money for Proem, our Ukraine appeal charity partners

K2 is committed to CSR and annual fundraising, and whilst we have ongoing local charity partnerships at our different global locations, we know it’s important to pivot and direct fundraising efforts to support new and urgent needs as they arise, such as with the situation in Ukraine.

K2 Executive Business Director, and Race to the King coordinator, Richard Rutledge comments:

“This year we’re raising funds for our Ukraine appeal charity partner, Proem, to support their ongoing humanitarian efforts.

We have already been working closely with Proem, arranging for essential items to be shipped over to their base in Poland, along with containers for storage. We have also supported with the provision of temporary accommodation and transport, but fundraising is incredibly important to enable them to continue to deliver the crucial work they’re doing for those who need it most.

We hope that Race to the King will help to significantly bolster the funds that have already been donated by the K2 family, clients and service partners.”

Team preparations – training walks and ongoing support

In the lead up to the event, the K2 Aon team have taken part in a number of group training walks, which have helped to build both stamina and team spirit.

Richard continues:

“Race to the King has fast become a cherished, though challenging, event in the K2 calendar and we’re delighted to have a mix of previous participants and first-timers taking part this year.

The route for 2022 is even longer than last year’s, at 100km, but the team are ready to rise to the occasion and tackle this mammoth task head on!

This is a great opportunity for employees from different teams across the business to come together with a common goal and share an amazing experience in picturesque surroundings. We’re delighted to have clients and service partners undertaking this challenge alongside us too.”

In addition to training walks, other pre-event support has included regular catch up meetings plus Q&A sessions with a representative from Threshold Events.
