Meet Sam, Regional Manager Middle East

My global mobility career started over 10 years ago at K2 Singapore where I joined as a Relocation Consultant, going on to lead the APAC team. After a stint as an in-house HR and mobility expert at one of the world’s largest dry bulk shipping companies, I returned to the K2 family in 2016 to set up our Middle East entity and operations. Having worked on both the in-house and provider ends of the spectrum, I have in-depth knowledge of the sector and the barriers our clients can face when moving their population.

Honestly, I was not sure what to expect when I re-joined the K2 family. Moving from APAC to the Middle East was a huge cultural change which took some adjustment.

This, coupled with the task of setting up a new entity in a new location, seemed a little daunting at the time but I was soon reassured that I was doing the right thing, and it felt as though I had returned “home” to K2. With the support of the company, I quickly settled into Dubai and began to expand our operations across the region.

Having the opportunity to meet our clients locally and understand the regional nuances has allowed me to provide unique support in an individually tailored fashion.  For me, the most enjoyable part of my role is that we really do pride ourselves on forging excellent working partnerships with our clients and truly understanding each organisation’s unique culture and challenges to almost become an extension of their internal teams.

As well as being responsible for Operations across the region, I am also heavily involved with internal projects.

From being part of the team who developed an in-house Accounts Payable portal, to being afforded the opportunity to work alongside our Marketing team on some really exciting initiatives and test new technology (such as AI).

In addition to my day-to-day role, I am also incredibly fortunate to be part of our ELT (Executive Leadership Team).  The ELT plays a pivotal role in fulfilling the “People & Culture” pillar of K2’s Kinetic Strategy and, seeing our initiatives rolled out across the globe, is extremely rewarding.

I have to admit, I really did find this question quite difficult to answer as in reality, working at K2, no two days are the same.  We frequently find ourselves assisting our clients to find innovative solutions to challenges which we have not come across before but, for me, this is part of what keeps my role both demanding and enjoyable.
