Thursday 15th June marked one year since the launch of Kinetic, K2’s five-year business strategy. To celebrate, our people and culture rose to the occasion once again for Kinetic Day 2023.
Kinetic Day reminds K2 of what Kinetic means. Established in 2021 to take over from Aspire, our first five-year business plan (2016 – 21), Kinetic sets out the company’s targets for 2022 – 2026. These targets span six core pillars, each of which is integral to way we live and breathe as a business:
- People & Culture
- Commercial Success
- Partner Network
- Marketing
- Technology
- Sustainability
Each of our regions filled their Kinetic Day with team-building and charitable activities. Before the activities began, each office watched a video presentation which provided an update on the progress that has been made across all six Kinetic pillars. After the viewing, each office headed out to a different location to take part in the activities that had been organised for them.
Sydney, Australia tested their problem-solving skills whilst under pressure in an escape room.
São Paulo, Brazil hosted a Question and Answer session with Patricia Tavares, Country Director. To find out more about Patricia, have a read of our recent interview with her. After the Q&A, a LATAM Household Goods partner came to the office to introduce their ECOFUN project, which sees boxes that can’t be reused being turned into games, doll’s houses or other toys. The K2 Brazil team created a number of toys – these will be taken to Associação Semeando Amor’s school, a school which the K2 Foundation is building anew, for the children to play with.
Dubai, UAE began their day at HHG supplier Delight International Movers’ warehouse, surprising the team with breakfast. Afterwards, K2 Dubai welcomed Thrift for Good into the office, a charity thrift shop chain which rehomes preloved items to reduce waste and to help children. The team upcycled items into tote bags to be sold on in a Thrift for Good store, and into dog toys to be donated to the local kennels of K9 Friends.
Paris, France set up shop at a local supermarket where they drummed up support for Pattounes sans Toi(t), their chosen charity. The charity rescues and rehabilitates abandoned and ill-treated cats in Île-de-France, working with a network of foster families who care for the cats until they can be formally adopted into a loving home.
Cape Town, South Africa spent their day volunteering at Heartlands Baby Sanctuary, which supports babies and young children who are in desperate need of care and/or protection.
Singapore took part in a scavenger hunt in Chinatown. After having split themselves up into five teams, each team was given a map with various Singapore landmarks highlighted on it. They had to make their way to each landmark, where they were tasked with completing an online quiz and a puzzle. When collated, the answers and solutions from all of the landmarks produced coordinates for the scavenger hunt’s finishing point.
Malmö, Sweden headed out into the fresh air for a series of team-building activities in the park.
Guildford, UK got the cogs turning through a quiz, the blood pumping through an exercise session, and the powers of persuasion operating at full throttle through a hustling-based activity.
Across three offices in the US, teams volunteered at local food banks, where they sorted, bagged and boxed up food. In addition, Houston, US got some exercise in by hiring a pedal bar, a bar on wheels which will only move forward if its passengers all get those thigh muscles working and pedal together at the same time. Thirsty work, but luckily for the team, refreshments were always close at hand!
Kinetic Day enabled us to celebrate our achievements to date and to prepare ourselves for the next four years. Year One of Kinetic has surpassed all of our expectations, and we cannot wait to get stuck in to the opportunities and challenges that Year Two promises to send our way.
