K2 Corporate Mobility have signed up to take part in this year’s Babble Ride Across Britain event to raise money for the K2 Foundation.
From 7th – 15th September, a small band of K2 riders will be taking on the iconic ‘End-to-End’ cycling challenge, covering 980 miles over the course of nine days as they make the journey from the bottom of Cornwall to the top of Scotland.
Organised by Threshold Sports, the Babble Ride Across Britain is the world’s biggest and best-supported Land’s End to John o’Groats ride.
Threshold Sports team member, Neil Watson, comments:
“There’s no better way to experience the British landscape than by bike. From the cliffs and moors of the South West, to the dark hills further North, the route has been designed to showcase the very best that this small island has to offer the cyclist in search of adventure.”
Highlights of the route include:
- St Michael’s Mount
- Cheddar Gorge
- The Severn Bridge
- Chepstow Castle
- Shap Fell
- Stunning Lake District views
- The Grampian Mountains
- Cairngorms National Park
- Conquering Glenshee and the Lecht
- John o’Groats and views of the Orkneys
Neil continues:
“Whilst riding the length of Britain isn’t for the faint hearted, the benefits that corporate participants have reported in previous years include seeing a positive impact on exercising habits, improved mental health, and having the opportunity to build closer relationships with colleagues. All this on top of being able to raise money for their chosen charity!
K2’s Executive Business Director, and Ride Across Britain Team Captain, Richard Rutledge, is looking forward to hitting the open road on two wheels this September:
“LEJOG is definitely a bit of a bucket-list challenge for a keen cyclist, so to be able to take it on whilst raising funds for the K2 Foundation was too good an opportunity to miss!
We set up the K2 Foundation in 2023, with the aim of extending our ability to support charities in the communities where we operate. All of the charities that the Foundation has partnered with work to improve the lives of children whose futures seem bleak or uncertain. Funding a project to rebuild a school in a São Paulo favela has been a major focus since the Foundation’s launch, and whilst significant progress has been made to date, there’s still work to be done and funds to be raised as we approach the final push.
As with any major construction project, there were a few unexpected barriers to be overcome. This put us a little behind schedule, but we’re pleased to say that the team we have in place now are working full speed and are hoping to complete the works by early August. The completion of the rebuild isn’t the end of our work, however. We will of course continue to support the school on an ongoing basis, to help with the maintenance and day-to-day running.”
Richard continues:
“After last year’s inaugural Foundation fundraising event saw 24 of us head to Nepal to take on Everest Base Camp and multiple local volunteering projects, we were on the look out for something different for this year. Whilst it’s a smaller scale challenge, there’s no doubt that the Land’s End to John o’Groats ride will still push those taking part well out of their comfort zone – myself included! Thanks in advance to all those who are able to support our efforts by making a donation and helping us raise much needed funds for the K2 Foundation.”
