A Summary of Day 6 of K2’s volunteering project in Nepal from worker Emma Kerslake
The volunteers woke up before the sunrise this morning to the beautiful sound of birds chirping and our guard dog barking. After a light breakfast of toasts and oats, our team donned their hard hats and got to work.
The morning was spent with half of the team beginning to paint the dilapidated school building and the other half began digging 2.6 foot trenches ready for the new toilet block. Around 10am the children started to arrive for school. Two children raised the Nepal school flag and all children lined up to sing the Nepal national anthem.
After a few hours of hard manual labour in the sunshine, the team were invited into the school building to get involved in activities for the primary school children. One group sung English nursery rhymes to the 3-6 year olds and the other group invited the slightly older children to learn English words through song and get involved in playground games.
After a wholesome lunch of noodles, potatoes and coleslaw, it’s back to work! Thanks to Mona for the quick (chocolate) energy boost.
The afternoon drew to a close as everyone downed tools and went for a bucket shower. As the sun was setting, Emma led a yoga class – much needed after a hard day of digging!

A summary of Day 6 of K2’s Everest Base Camp Trek from walker Natasha Wannenburg
After having our acclimatisation day yesterday, we were ready for our trek to 3860m above sea level. This morning we headed out from Namche to Deboche faced with a steap flight of stairs and stunning views to follow.
We stopped for a quick tea break at Kyangjuma (3500m above sea level) and continued to our lunch destination where we had a quick bite and continued to our end destination at Deboche.
We had a long climb up and finally reached Tengboche Monastery where we were stunned by the amazing art and sculptures.
With a small descend down to our lodge (3800m above sea level), we walked through a forest-like scenery and finally reached the lodge, ready for bed and to prepare for the next day where we will trek from Deboche to Dingboche (4258m above sea level).

Often, the support provided takes the form of education, as this gives children the chance to develop skillsets which can increase the number of opportunities available to them as they grow up.
