Last week, David Snowling, Global Head of Immigration at K2, was joined by members of the Immigration Team from across the globe to share updates with our clients and our broader network via a webinar. In what was both an informative and interactive presentation, the webinar focused on the key changes that 2023 has brought to Sweden, as well as further insight into our team and scope of services across LATAM and APAC, before inviting viewers to ask questions in a Question and Answer session.

Patrik Tostemar, Immigration Manager, spoke about Sweden’s compliance requirements and immigration processes:
- The most common permit types
- An overview of Sweden’s immigration process
- Important information regarding first time applications
- The discontinuation of the Certified Sponsorship: going into detail on Categories A, B, C, and D
- The path to a Permanent Residence Permit
Patrik then handed over to Immigration Consultant Nadiyah Hanifi, who gave us an overview on K2’s Immigration Services in APAC:
- We provide business visas and consular/immigration services across the region, covering – but not limited to – Singapore, Australia, China, Japan and Indonesia
- We partner with the Swedish Chamber of Commerce in Singapore
- APAC regularly provide support to Swedish businesses across the region
APAC Updates:
- We are seeing an increase in the level of control within government policy frameworks
- We are seeing a shift change in the demographics of who we are supporting with immigration in the APAC region: fewer traditional assignments for clients; more local talent moving across the region
- Introduction of new pass types to attract talent
Carolina Carnauba, Immigration Leader LATAM, then presented her updates on immigration in South America:
- Foreign Policy optimism as President Lula takes office
- Brazil’s Ministry of Justice and Public Safety have created a working group. The group’s aim is to draft a national policy on immigrants, refugees and stateless people
- Effective October 1, 2023, Brazil will require nationals of the United States, Canada, Japan, and Australia to obtain a visa prior to entering the country for tourism, business, and other purposes. The announcement reverses a visa waiver policy that had been in place since 2019 with the goal of promoting tourism.
- Expect delays in DNI processing times in Argentina
- There are some consulate appointment backlogs in Mexico and Costa Rica
