From 7th – 15th September, members of the global K2 team are taking on the 980-mile Ride Across Britain cycling challenge to raise money for the K2 Foundation.
As the K2 Kinetic Cruisers, our Ride Across Britain team, approach the half-way point of their epic journey, we wanted to share an overview of their first few days on the road:
Days 1 & 2
Stage 1: Land’s End to Okehampton
Stage 2: Okehampton to Bath
Despite being faced with downpours and tough climbs, the K2 Kinetic Cruisers powered through the opening weekend of the ride, covering more than 200 miles over the first two days.
Spurred on by roadside supporters and with two of the trickiest days under their belts, by the end of the weekend, the team were feeling set to take on the remaining seven days.
Days 3 & 4
Stage 3: Bannerdown Bath to Ludlow Racecourse
Stage 4: Ludlow Racecourse to Haydock Park Racecourse
Buoyed by the prospect of a slightly shorter day, and the anticipation of one of the most beautiful sections of the ride along the River Wye, the team headed off from historic Bath and crossed the iconic Severn Bridge, as they made their way to the Day 3 basecamp at Ludlow Racecourse. The sun even came out towards the end of the day, meaning smiles all round, as the team delighted in having another 94m down.
Day 4 took our riders from Ludlow Racecourse to Haydock Park a 107.7 mile ride featuring some enjoyable flat stretches. It wasn’t all plain sailing however as one of the team ended up off course and took a bit of a detour.
Day 5
Stage 5: Haydock Park Racecourse to Carlisle
Today (11th September), will see the team pass through Wigan and Preston, before ascending the mighty Shap Fell in the second half of the day. The highest point on the whole ride, and the signal that the England stages are nearly over, we’re hoping the team will have some sunshine for the climb and are able to take advantage of the views from the top!
The K2 Kinetic Cruisers have now raised more than £6,000 for the K2 Foundation and the global projects it supports, but still have a way to go to reach their target.
