Meet Nick, our CEO & Founder

I founded K2 in 2002 with the aim of offering clients a level of integrity and service excellence that surpassed all other market offerings.

The birth of K2 was the result of shared frustrations about the moving industry, notably a lack of accountability and ownership. We wanted to make the relocation process less transactional and more personal.

Over 20 years on, I’m proud to say that I believe we have achieved that. Our ‘because it’s personal’ ethos sits at the heart of all that we do.

I’m a strong believer that in order to make bold enough strides to be truly innovative and have an impact on any industry, you need to be willing to embrace failure.

The early days of K2 weren’t without their fair share of failures but, we held steadfast, remaining committed to the new K2 business model, and with every failure and set-back, became more resilient and determined to succeed.

As the organisation started to grow in line with the needs of our clients, our service offering developed in a way that was organic, responsive and solution centric. Our clients valued our ability to be agile and pro-active, whilst always maintaining our service standards, and we valued our clients, the people who were willing to take a punt with the new kids on the block. We still have some of those original clients, testament to the relationships we built all those years ago that became the foundations for long-term partnerships. Hand-on-heart, I still value each of our clients just as much today.

The ability to attract the right people, in the right positions, is at the core of our success. When you have passionate and motivated employees, whose values and vision align with those of yourself and your business, you can achieve anything. As our most valuable asset, it is incredibly important to me that members of the K2 Family are recognised for everything they do; for the business, our clients, our assignees, and each other. That’s why we continue to explore new ways to expand our employee reward & recognition programme, through initiatives like the ‘Q Awards’ and the ‘Kinetic Benefit’.

In 2019 I was fortunate to be in a position to take advantage of a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to take time out of the business to travel the world with my family. During this six month sabbatical we visited Peru, Ecuador, the Amazon, Galapagos Islands and Columbia before heading up to Central America, North America and over to Asia, taking in Vietnam, Singapore and the Maldives. This was a phenomenal experience, one which I will be forever grateful for, and which was the inspiration behind the development of the ‘X Annos Sabbatical’, offering K2 family members the chance to take a 3-month sabbatical upon reaching their 10 year anniversary.

During these travels, I was deeply saddened to be faced with the shocking reality of the amount of plastic in our oceans, and to see first-hand the waste polluting many of the major cities we visited. The son of a farmer, I grew up with an in-built respect for the natural world, and, from childhood, had a love of the great outdoors, so to see nature being destroyed in this way, as a result of the action (or inaction) of humans, was a hard pill to swallow. As the founder of a global company, within an industry with an astronomical carbon footprint, it made me all the more conscious of the need for K2 to lead by example and place ourselves front and centre of a movement for change within the relocation sector.

As part of our Kinetic strategy, which launched in 2022, we made a series of commitments, not only to reduce our carbon footprint but to be responsible global citizens. Since beginning our sustainability journey in earnest, we’ve covered a lot of ground – you can read more about our progress in our Sustainability Report.

In 2023, in a bid to extend our ability to contribute positively to the communities where we operate, we set up a K2 charitable foundation. Inspired by a visit to a Brazilian favela school, the aim of the K2 Foundation is to improve the lives of children, whose futures are bleak or uncertain.

We have partnered with many different global charities over the years, and it has been very cool to take part in some epic fundraising expeditions – none more epic than our ascent of Everest Base Camp in 2023, the K2 Foundation’s first major fundraising event.

K2 has come a long way from a tiny team in our first, front-room office in 2002 but we’ve never deviated from what we believe in; innovate fearlessly, embrace failure and reward loyalty.
